[00:00:29] Hello and welcome back to another bonus episode on the Race Trail podcast. Let's get real. I mean, after all, we are on the Embrace Real podcast. When was the last time that you set a mental goal for yourself? I think that it's so common for us to set these physical goals, career goals, life goals, financial goals, relationship goals. But it's not so common to actually sit down and say, what are my mental goals? But here's the thing if we don't have our mental game dialed, it becomes very difficult to reach the goals that we want to reach in any aspect of our life. This is because of our mindset isn't right. It will stand in the way of reaching our goals. And so that's why in today's episode, I'm going to dive into three of the seven mental goals that I recommend you make in 2024 so that you can reach your full potential this year. So this is a two part series. So part one will be this week and part two will be next week. So stay tuned for part two. [00:01:25][56.1]

[00:01:25] Before I dive in though, I want to share this review. Brooke Murray one says everything a girl woman needs is here. I've only been listening to Julie for about three weeks now, but everything she has said in her podcast is everything a woman needs to hear. Her podcasts are honest and uplifting for those days that you lack motivation and self-confidence. For the short little podcast, she speaks volumes. I love this so much. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to send in this review. Hey, it is a new year and I am asking you if you could scooch over to Apple Podcasts. If you tune in on any Apple device, you can type in Embrace Your Real. Make sure you're subscribe so that you never miss an episode, and you can leave a rating interview over there if you are tuning in over on Spotify. [00:02:04][39.1]

[00:02:05] Hey yo! So glad that you are over there. Um, you can actually leave a rating for the show, so if you could just type in Embrace Your Real, you got to be on the app on your phone, but you can leave a rating there. And that really does help us out in terms of just the ratings and also, you know, reaching more women. This is a free resource for you. And so I just want it to reach as many women as possible on a monthly and annual basis. So that really does help us out. [00:02:30][25.2]

[00:02:30] Okay. Let's dive in to the seven mental goals for 2024. That's going to be part one. So we're going to go through three. And then the remainder part two will have the last four. [00:02:40][10.0]

[00:02:41] Number one stop fueling your smallest self and start chasing your best self. So what the heck does fueling your smallest self mean? Well basically it's the act of nourishing or reinforcing negative aspects self-doubts, insecurities, limiting beliefs within yourself. So when you feel your smallest self, that means that you're focusing on your weaknesses. You're focusing on your fears, the negative self perceptions that you have of yourself which lead to a lack of self confidence, self-worth. Essentially, it's the opposite of nurturing your potential and striving to be your best, which is what you should be doing. [00:03:14][33.3]

[00:03:15] You shouldn't be limiting yourself, but realizing that you are limitless. You shouldn't be holding yourself back, but really pushing yourself to chase your fullest potential. You shouldn't be doubting yourself, but really believing that you are capable of so much more. Believe that there is a best self hidden within you, and all you have to do is bring her out, suppress your small self and nourish your big self. So when these thoughts arise in your head, really question where they're coming from. [00:03:42][27.1]

[00:03:42] Is this your small self speaking or is this your best self? If it's your small self, ask yourself what your big self would say. And this practice alone can really change your entire life because you're identifying it in the moment. I think oftentimes we let these thoughts flow so fluently and fluidly in our mind and we don't recognize, oh, that's my small self, or oh, that's my best self. And really celebrating your self when you are best self focused and you are, you know, focusing on your potential and chasing after that, when you're realizing that you are limitless in your ability to do whatever it is that you want, your gifts and talents that God has given you, being able to go and move confidently in those. But I think oftentimes we are so again, just in our head and we don't take the time to identify those things. So we're not recognizing how often we're living in this small self mentality. [00:04:31][49.4]

[00:04:33] Number two, let go of things that you cannot control. Letting go of things that you can't control is undeniably one of the most valuable mental goals that you can set for yourself in any given year. If we constantly cling on to controlling the things that we can't, we're just going to set ourselves up for a very stressful, anxious filled life. Learning to accept that we cannot change, and focusing on the things that we can change. That's what will actually change your life. And let's be real, it frees you from the burdens of unnecessary worry and stress, which is just wasted energy. When you embrace the idea of relinquishing control over external factors, you free up your mental space and energy to focus on truly what matters. It's realizing that there are these aspects of life that we're all living in that is far beyond any of our control and takes. This, you actually kind of gain a sense of inner peace and understanding that it's out of your hands. [00:05:30][57.4]

[00:05:30] Like, the number one way that I do this is by leaning into God through prayer, through journaling, through reading His Word, and recognizing that when I can't control what I want to change, I just trust God. Okay, God, you know, ultimately what is best for me in this moment? I might feel like this is best for me, but I don't know where I'm going to be in six months. I don't know where I'm going to be in a year or two years. You do ultimately know the path of my life, and so I'm going to trust you with that. And just recognizing that he is sovereign over my life gives me so much clarity and so much peace, and also just saturating my mind and heart with prayer. And His word is so, so important. [00:06:10][39.5]

[00:06:11] And lastly, number three, embrace being strong and not skinny. You guys, if you've been tuning in for any length of time, you know that I struggled with this for a decade of my life, but our obsession with being skinny and smaller and thinner, this is literally deteriorating our mental health. How are we ever supposed to be happy and live presently in our lives, when all we can think about, all we can fix is being smaller size, being skinnier, lesser of this, lesser of that. Especially when we allow this one thought to dictate our lives. Have you take a step back? You might say, oh, it's not dictating my life. I guarantee it's dictating parts of your life that you might not even recognize. If you're just letting your life pass you by each and every day. [00:06:53][42.5]

[00:06:54] When I took a step back and I looked at how much time I wasted in the decade of my life that I was obsessed about being the smallest version of myself, I wasted hours upon hours every single day. Which which ultimately was probably thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of hours that I wasted simply on just that thought of what can I do to be smaller? How can I get in in a lesser pan size? It was just this quest for this unrealistic beauty standard that's impossible for us to ever achieve. Because when you're chasing skinny, you're essentially disrespecting your body because you're trying to force it to be something that it's not supposed to be. It's fueling this self-criticism, this body dissatisfaction, and this super unhealthy relationship with food fitness in your body. And this is why we need to focus on our strength, focus on wanting to have a strong body, a capable body, a healthy body. [00:07:48][54.5]

[00:07:49] It's hard to have any of those things when you're constantly striving and fixating on a skinnier, smaller version of yourself. When you focus on wanting a strong body, you realize that you actually become strong in other aspects of your life. You realize that you're building more self-acceptance, more self-compassion, and a sense of empowerment, and you'll actually start to fall in love with the incredible capabilities of your body, because you'll start to see them in a light that you've never seen them before. The more strength that you build, the more you start to fall in love with your body, and the better your body image becomes. Because the more you start to question, why did I even want to have a smaller body? Because I feel so much better when I'm focusing on everything that my body is and does for me, versus everything that my body isn't, and everything that I can't be. [00:08:35][46.3]

[00:08:35] Ultimately, focusing on being strong instead of skinny creates more of a sustainable and fulfilling path and a much healthier relationship with your body, one that is rooted in self-acceptance, self-confidence, self appreciation for all of its capabilities. [00:08:48][12.5]

[00:08:49] So there you have it. Those are the first three mental goals that I want you to have, or at least the very least, think about for 2024. So let me quickly recap what I talked about. Number one, stop fueling your smallest self and start chasing your best self. Number two, let go of things that you can't control. And number three, embrace being strong and not skinny. Don't forget I will be releasing part two next week, so stay tuned there for the remainder of the four. So we will have a total of seven mental goals for 2024.
