Let's go. [00:00:22][22.7]

[00:00:29] Hello and welcome back to another bonus episode 9 Ways to Strengthen Your Mindset Muscle Part One. So today's topic I wanted to talk about because I think it's often overlooked, but it's absolutely crucial on your fitness journey, which is looking at your mindset as a muscle and asking yourself, okay, what are the things and how are the ways that I can strengthen that mindset muscle? Because building the body that you want isn't just about lifting weights and eating right. It's also about cultivating the mental resilience and determination to stay committed to your goals no matter what life throws at you. [00:01:01][32.7]

[00:01:02] But this is just a muscle that needs to be strengthened, just like any other muscle in our body. Like you can't show up and expect your mental muscle to be strong. You need to work hard and work consistently to strengthen it. Just how you know, if you can't do five pushups in a row unless you work extremely hard to get there or if you're just naturally gifted. But I know for me I struggle with push ups, so if I'm not working actively on them, I'm not likely going to be able to do them very well. And so that's why in today's episode, I'm going to be sharing with you nine ways to strengthen your mindset muscle. And this is going to be a two-part series, so be sure to stay tuned for part two. [00:01:34][31.7]

[00:01:34] But before we dive in, I wanted to share this review. It comes from Bar MU. She gave a five star review and said, My new listen. I found this podcast when I set out to increase my steps and needed it. And listen, Julie's a breath of fresh air and it feels like you're sitting on the porch having a good discussion with a friend. Thanks for all the wisdom and knowledge. I love this so much. I wish that I could sit on everybody's porch and just have a good talk with you. Like that is my dream is to be able to sit with you guys and just talk one on one and just learn more about you, because I'm so fascinated by you guys. I met someone up in Silverthorne the other last weekend when I was there, and I just love meeting guys in person. Like there is no greater joy. It is seriously one of the biggest joys in my life. Honestly, I just feel so incredibly grateful that God has allowed me to have this platform to be able to speak with you guys and just connect to you guys. It is something I will never take for granted. So thank you so much for leaving this review and taking time out of your day to do so. [00:02:31][57.3]

[00:02:32] All right. We're going to dive right in to some of the key strategies for building that strong mental muscle and exercise. [00:02:38][5.8]

[00:02:38] Number one, for strengthening your mental muscle. You have to accept that not everything goes as planned, like this fitness journey, just like life is a roller coaster ride. Sometimes more times than not, things won't go as planned. That's just the way it is. Injuries happen, unexpected life events pop up, plateaus in your progress can throw you off track. The key to accept that setbacks can and will happen is one overlooked goldmine in my opinion. Like if you can come to that realization and now you know, I'm just going to accept that not everything is going to go as planned. I'm going to take a step back, I'm going to reassess and I'm going to adjust my plan as needed. That is going to set you up for success and set you up to go so much further than previously. [00:03:24][45.8]

[00:03:25] If you just are constantly paralyzed or frustrated or you cannot see past your roadblock. Remember, it's not about how many times you fall, it's about how many times you get back up. It's not about doing things perfectly. It's about doing them imperfectly but consistently. So don't let a roadblock in your plan deter you from continuing forward. Just realize that this is a part of the journey and that you need to just keep pushing anyway. [00:03:51][25.7]

[00:03:51] Exercise number two for strengthening your mental muscle is to get comfortable outside your comfort zone. We've all heard this growing up, whether it was in P.E. class, it was in psychology, it was someone in your life, whether it was your dad or your mom or a mentor. You know, there's telling you, get outside your comfort zone. That's where you grow. Get outside your comfort zone. It's so cliche, but growth happens when you do step outside your comfort zone. And if you're constantly doing the same workouts day in and day out and you're not challenging yourself with new weights, you're not feeling like you're actually pushing yourself in the workouts, you're likely going to hit a plateau. [00:04:31][39.8]

[00:04:31] Challenge yourself with new exercises, challenge yourself with new weights or reps or volume, new surroundings. Get comfortable feeling uncomfortable working out when you're tired or you're stressed or you don't want to be there. I think oftentimes we give ourselves too much grace. You know, there's some of us that are so hard on ourselves and we do need to have we need to strike that balance of giving our self grace. But then there's other times where we're giving ourselves so much grace that we're not actually making ourselves be better at all because we're just constantly giving in to what we're feeling in the moment. But embracing discomfort is where progress truly began. So the more you challenge yourself, the stronger your mindset will become. [00:05:12][40.5]

[00:05:12] Exercise number three for strengthening your mental muscle is to learn from failure. You guys, this is so, so important. I one of the best pieces of advice that I got from a mentor. I want to say it was back in 2017, 2018, fail fast so you can succeed sooner. It's such a simple concept, but it will transform your life because we are constantly running away from failure in society. We we think failure equates to, oh my gosh, people are going to make fun of us. We're not enough. You know, all the voices from our childhood, all the different times that we went through, we were embarrassed or we didn't make the team or whatever it is. They come back and they they tried to haunt us. The fact of the matter is, the faster you fail, the more time you have to be able to succeed. And you also need to accept that failure is not the end. Instead, it is a stepping stone to success. [00:06:08][55.4]

[00:06:08] So when you can fail fast, it will allow you to succeed sooner simply because you're learning from that failure. If you allow yourself to learn from that failure, you will succeed sooner because you will say, Oh, you know, I went down that path, I hit that roadblock and I now know in the future what to do so that I don't get to that roadblock. Yes, you might get a few more steps and hit another roadblock, but it's a new roadblock. It's not the same one that you struggled with previously, if that makes sense. [00:06:35][26.8]

[00:06:36] So just remember this. Like every single failure is a lesson waiting to be learned. So instead of getting hard on yourself or telling yourself that you're not capable or analyzing everything, that you went wrong and constantly, you know, getting down on yourself, beating yourself up, acknowledge what happened, how you feel and adjust your approach. Use those experiences to feel your determination to move forward. Failure is your teacher, but only if you allow it to be your teacher. You can make huge improvements on your journey by just allowing failure to teach you something. [00:07:11][35.8]

[00:07:12] Exercise number four for strengthening your mental muscle is to seek inspiration. So we all have moments of doubt. We all have moments of low motivation. And during these times, I want you to seek inspiration from others who have achieved what you've aspired to do. So typically we look at those who achieve what we aspire to do, maybe with envy or jealousy. We allow them to make us feel less than. But what if we're able to challenge ourselves to look at these people with a whole new perspective? If they can do it? There's no reason why I can't use their success as an inspiration to experience your own success as well. [00:07:45][33.5]

[00:07:46] So whether this is following people, it's listening to podcasts, it's reading books, it's walking, watching documentaries, you're able to see and experience the transformation of them telling their story. That can help to reignite your passion and remind you that your goals are within reach. [00:08:03][17.3]

[00:08:04] And lastly, number five, exercise. Number five for strengthening your mental muscle is to cultivate a growth mindset. So this is probably one of the most important things you can do for strengthening your mental muscle is to develop this growth mindset because it is the belief that you can improve at whatever it is that you want to improve on through effort and learning. [00:08:23][19.2]

[00:08:24] So instead of thinking I'm not good at something, reminding yourself I'm working on getting better at that, it's about rephrasing and reframing your thoughts. It's not that you can't do something, it's that you're learning how to do it. When you develop this growth mindset, you're able to acknowledge that you might not be where you want to be right now, but you understand that you are learning and are. You are capable of getting to where you want to be. You understand that it's a journey through hard work, through proper effort, through greater learning, through mentors, through mindset shifts, and that you are truly capable of achieving anything. So there you have it. Those are the first five ways to strengthen your mindset and muscle. [00:09:05][41.1]

[00:09:05] Let me quickly recap what I talked about. Number one, except that not everything goes as planned. Number two, get outside your comfort zone. Number three, learn from failure. Number four, seek inspiration. And number five, cultivate a growth mindset. [00:09:19][13.9]

[00:09:20] Be sure to stay tuned for part two to find out four more ways to strengthen your muscle mindset. I hope that this gave you some sort of nugget to think about to chew on. Maybe you wrote something down. I want you to reflect on that. I want you to ask yourself, how can I strengthen my muscle mindset? How can I be active and proactive in doing that? Because I guarantee you will look back and you will say today, the day that you're listening to this podcast is the day that you decided to really actively pursue this in the ways that you've already pursued your nutrition, you've already pursued your workouts and recognizing, Dang, this is an important puzzle piece in this overall puzzle of my health and wellness journey. You're going to look back on this day and you're going to thank yourself for taking the first step. [00:10:07][46.8]

[00:10:07] I know it's hard. I know it might feel confusing. I might. I know it might feel not natural. Like it's not something that you've ever really focused on. But I'm telling you, when you really start to fixate on training your mind, like you train your muscles, it can transform your. Her entire life in so many ways. [00:10:26][19.0]

[00:10:27] So I hope that you found this helpful.
